Aircraft in a near miss above London

Two aircraft have been in a close call above London, a Turkish Airlines passenger plane (Boeing 777) and a German business jet (Citation 525), the German business plan took off from London City Airport closely missing the Turkish Airlines passenger plane on it’s descend into London.

German business jet (Citation 525) was cleared for take off ans was told to clime to 3,000ft, after the flight crew had acknowledged the order, they said back to the tower that they would be climbing to 4,000ft.

At the same time the Turkish Boeing 777 plane had been told to descend to 4,000ft for the approach into west London.

The accident should have be avoided by the emergency avoidance system (TCAS II.) but Boeing crew did not respond to the orders.
The business jet was not fitted with TCAS II, and has now come to light that all planes should be fitted with the system as law.
In bad weather with low visibility this may have been a catastrophic disaster.

The event was closely avoided by the pilot in the observer seat, the captain said that he had the passenger plane in sight “all the time” and thought that they would be well clear of the other jet.

The Citation 525 jet was around 100ft to 200ft below and half a mile away from the Turkish passenger plane, with 232 people on board
