787 test aircraft diverted due to maintenance issue

SEATTLE -- The sixth and final Boeing 787 airframe to be used for test flights landed an hour after it took off on Monday due to a maintenance issue.

ZA006 took off at Paine Field at 11:43 a.m. and was diverted to Boeing Field at 12:45 p.m. as a precautionary note, a company spokesperson said.

"A flight of this length is still considered a (successful) first flight and we are proud to have the sixth and final flight test airplane enter the program today," Boeing spokeswoman Yvonne Leach in a statement.

The company did not elaborate on the maintenance issue.

The final test plane in the group is the second 787 aircraft using General Electric engines. The other four flight test 787's have Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engines.
