MANILA, Philippines—A maintenance worker found a fetus in the toilet of an Etihad Airways plane which arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) from Abu Dhabi on Monday night.
Supt. Manuel Pintado, deputy chief of the Police Center for Aviation Security (PCAS), said Randy Ondo, a maintenance man, was cleaning a toilet in the aircraft when he saw bloodstains in a trash can.
A closer check of the can’s contents led to the discovery of the fetus. Pintado said Ondo immediately called the attention of the airline’s duty manager and brought his find to the airport medical office.
A doctor at the clinic said the fetus was male and around five to six months.
PCAS investigator PO2 Marcelino Pininoy told the Inquirer that they were waiting for a statement from Etihad Airways to help them in their investigation.
According to him, he already had a copy of the list of passengers of Etihad Airways flight number EY 428 which landed in Manila at 9:55 p.m. on Monday.
He added, however, that it would be hard to determine the mother of the unborn child since there were around 300 passengers on the aircraft, including several Filipinos.
Pininoy said they had turned the case over to the Pasay police.
In September, a newborn baby boy was found alive in the trash bin of a Gulf Air plane and turned over to the care of the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
