Frankfurt - Lufthansa cancelled a flight by one of its three Airbus A380 superjumbo planes Monday, forcing 395 passengers to disembark after the pilot called for a check of its undercarriage.
The pilot raised concerns while the loaded plane was taxiing toward the runway at Frankfurt's international airport.
The airline said it would use a different A380 for the Tokyo-bound flight while checks continued. The departure would be delayed by several hours.
The airline did not disclose what prompted the pilot to request a check of the plane's front wheels.
An initial check on the airfield by technicians found nothing improper and the Airbus then returned to the terminal. But the airline decided to cancel the take-off, preferring to be on the safe side.
Australian airline Qantas has grounded all of its A380 Model Airplanes after an engine casing blew apart in a flight out of Singapore.
