
The Australian airline has reshuffled its fleet so that passengers due to fly on sectors operated by the grounded A380s will now beconveyed by other aircraft types, minimising or eliminating inconvenience.
The Australian newspaper reported that Qantas is considering taking modified new engines intended for two of its aircraft on theAirbus production line in Toulouse, to replace engines on its grounded A380s.
Meanwhile, the explosion of a Rolls-Royce A380 Trent 900 engine on a Qantas flight from Singapore to Sydney on 4 November has focussed media attention on other problems hitting airline engines.
In the most recent of a series, a Jetstar Airbus was forced to return to Brisbane on Tuesday due to a mechanical problem soon after takeoff. The hydraulic system malfunctioned on the Airbus A320 flight to Mackay. For safety reasons, the flight, JQ 888, returned to Brisbane and landed without incident.
