Delta Air Lines loses hatch during flight

A Delta Air Lines passenger plane lost an access-door over Denmark last month as it came in to land at Copenhagen airport, an aviation official said here Tuesday.

No-one was injured on the ground and the Boeing 757 from New York landed without problems on November 19, civil aviation authority inspector Lars Christoffersen told AFP.

The hatch to a hydraulic bay, measuring 1.20 metres by 80 centimetres and weighing 20 kilos fell from the plane's left wing as it flew at an altitute of 11,000 feet (3,350 metres).

The hatch came down in countryside on the island of Zealand, some 60 kilometres west of Copenhagen, the official said.

Passengers were unaware of the incident, Christoffersen said.

"The onboard instruments alerted the captain to a hydraulic problem which did not prevent a normal landing in complete security." he said.

"These kinds of incidents are happily very rare."
