Southwest orders bigger jets

In case you missed this story earlier this week, The Associated Press writes Southwest "will change an existing order with Boeing and get 20 new Boeing 737-800 jets beginning in March 2012. Those jets have 175 seats, 38 more than the largest planes in Southwest's current fleet, which means potentially more revenue per flight."

Flight International says Southwest "aims to take delivery of the aircraft in March 2012. Dallas-based Southwest unveiled its evaluation of the Boeing 737-800 in August, and subsequently reached agreements with its pilots and flight attendants to add the aircraft type to its fleet. A fourth flight attendant is required for the -800 because of the aircraft's larger size."
