Baggage Handler Accidentally Gets Trapped In Cargo Hold

Is there anything more terrifying that sitting on an airplane that’s about to take off and hearing strange noises?

Usually that’s a sign that something is terribly wrong (despite what the flight attendants say to assure you that the plane isn’t about to fall apart).

That’s the case with an incident that happened on Monday to 29 passengers who were aboard a US Airways flight that was about to depart from Washington, D.C.

Just before the plane was about to push back, passengers heard strange thumping sounds coming from underneath the floor.  So they alerted the flight attendants who then asked the pilot to find out what the noises were.

When they re-opened the cargo hold, they were shocked to find… a baggage handler.

The guy had crawled into a compartment that was only 37 inches high to load some baggage, but one of his co-workers didn’t see him in there (or so he claims) and accidentally locked him inside.  (We suspect foul play from someone who desperately wanted a promotion.)

Thank goodness he was loud enough to alert the passengers that he was trapped, because if he wasn’t he may have frozen to death by the time the plane reached Hartford.
