THE pilot of a passenger jet fell asleep mid-flight while the co-pilot - who had visited the lavatory - was locked out of the cockpit.
The fully-booked flight, which was flying from Copenhagen to Stockholm, was under the total control of the autopilot for several minutes as the pilot dozed, Norwegian newspaper VG reports.
The pilot, from Swedish airline SAS, was only woken once his colleague returned and had to repeatedly ring the bell of the door to get back into the locked cockpit.
However the pilot had trouble unlocking the door due as he was "temporarily disorientated".
He had reportedly had less than four hours sleep and was on the day's fourth of five scheduled flights.
"I was extremely tired and had to fight to keep my eyes open," the pilot said.
An SAS spokesman said it was unusual for pilots to fall asleep while on duty.
No disciplinary action will be taken against the pilot
