A South African airline holding company announced orders today for eight Boeing 737-800 jets for its kulula.com low-fare carrier.

At list prices, the order is worth $646 million. Airlines, however, often bargain to pay less than list prices for jets.

The low-fare carrier already operates a fleet of 10 737s. The new planes will update some of the planes in the carrier's existing fleet. The planes will be built in Boeing's Renton final assembly plant.
