Emergency landing after smoke in cockpit

AN American Airlines passenger jet made an emergency landing today in eastern Canada after the crew reported smoke in the cockpit.

Emergency crews were placed on standby in Halifax, Nova Scotia, but American Airlines flight 199, heading to New York from Italy, landed there without incident and none of the 211 passengers and crew aboard was injured, airport spokeswoman Ashley Barnes said.

"That flight was en route to JFK from Milan. Those folks now have deplaned and American Airlines will make decision to what happens with those folks," she said.
