Mitsubishi Aircraft completes design work for small passenger jet

NAGOYA (Kyodo) -- Mitsubishi Aircraft Corp. said Wednesday it has completed design work for Japan's first small passenger jet dubbed the Mitsubishi Regional Jet.

Production of its components is expected to begin at Mitsubishi Aircraft's partner makers by the end of this month, the company said.

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd., the parent of Mitsubishi Aircraft, will be responsible for fabricating the fuselage and wing, and aircraft final assembly.

The MRJ's first flight is scheduled in around April to June in 2012 and its first delivery for around January to March in 2014.

Mitsubishi Aircraft has already received 125 orders in total from All Nippon Airways Co. and Trans State Holdings, which has U.S. regional carriers under its wing.
