Oprah Winfrey is famous for surprising her fans with lavish, free gifts, like computers, cars, and fried chicken. Come December, she's going over the top and above and beyond, and sending her entire audience to Australia. It was just announced that Qantas, Australia's flagship national carrier, will be hosting the flight. It looks like crying kids will soon be replaced by screaming Oprah superfans. Qantas is in for a treat, and so are Australian taxpayers, who are footing some 2.8 million dollars of the cost of bringing them down under.
For the Oprah Winfrey Show’s 25th and final season, Oprah told her studio audience (shouted, in her Oprah voice, actually): “We’re going to Australia!” A mock-up of a Qantas jet rolled on stage, and actor John Travolta made a cameo dressed as a Qantas pilot. Travolta has been a Qantas “Ambassador at Large” since 2002, thanks, we’re sure, to his love of the airline.
The studio audience of approximately 300 fans will be checking out Qantas’ trendy fleet, which includes stylish cabins, award-winning wines, and personalized entertainment systems. I imagine there will also be a whole lot of giddy, single white females trying to say “g’day, mate!” in their best Australian accent.
