JetBlue Airways - Top Performing Airline

New York, September 24th (TradersHuddle.com) - The NYSE airline index ended the session higher by closing at $41.98, which represents 1.48% versus its previous day close. The airline index exhibited strong upside with 10 out of 13 airlines trading higher.

JetBlue Airways (NASDAQ:JBLU) was the top performer of the sector today closing at $5.94 representing 4.95%. versus the previous trading session. Shares of JetBlue Airways, the New York based discount airline have defined support at $5.52 and resistance at $6.03.

Southwest Airlines Co. (NYSE:LUV) was also among the top performers, closed the trading session at $12.28 representing 3.45% from its previous close. Southwest Airlines Co. , the domestic discount airline that focuses in short haul and high frequency has calculated support and resistance levels at $10.76 and $12.28 respectively. The other top performer was Delta (NYSE:DAL), which closed the trading session at $11.7 representing 3.36% from the previous trading session.

The sector's worst performers include Tam (NYSE:TAM) that closed the trading session at $22.62 or -1.82% from the previous close. Shares of Tam, the Brazil based airline have defined support at $21.78 and resistance at $23.30. Also among the worst performers was Gol Linhas Aereas Inteligentes (NYSE:GOL), which closed the trading session at $15.52 representing -0.77% from the previous trading session.

Benchmark crude for October delivery was lower closing the trading session at $73.46 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange lower by $-0.97 from the previous trading session. Crude prices are closely watched by traders as they usually correlate with the airline stocks, given that a big component of the airlines' cost structure is covered by the price of fuel.
