Airlines cut first class seats

As customers look for cheap travel deals when flying, airlines are doing away with or reducing first class seating.  Airlines are competing more than ever to get as many passengers on their planes as possible during a tough economic environment. Here a few a examples thus far in 2010 of airlines catering to the frugal traveler.

  • AirTran Airways has already announced that they are eliminating first-class seats once their merger with Southwest Airlines is complete in 2011.

  • United Airlines is planning to install more coach-class seating when upgrading their fleet.

  • British Airways didn't include first-class seats on their new order of Boeing 777 planes, but plans to invest $150 million to upgrade existing premium seats.

  • Qantas plans to do away with first-class seats on most long-haul routes, with the exception of a few Los Angeles and London flights from Australia.
